Walter, Bruno. (1876–1962) Signed 1938 LetterInteresting TLS from the great conductor, signed "Bruno Walter." One page, Nov. 24, 1938, to Herr Kapellmeister Theodor Fuchs, Cordoba. The great conductor recommends a cellist, Ernst Wassing, from the Wiener Staatsoper, noting his "schnen Ton" and that he is "ein sehr guter Musiker." A fine example of the kind of letter of recommendation that could make all the difference to the many Jewish musicians who were fleeing Austria and Germany at this time.
